Social network privacy

The issue of privacy in Facebook and other social networks is not a new one. The Chronicle of Higher Education, the “No. 1 source of news, information, and jobs for [American] college and university faculty members and administrators”, published various articles on the issue (unfortunately I could not access them because you need an account, and at the moment I am not going to spend money on it. But they are there, if you are interested). Personally I am not worried about the issue at the moment, because in my Facebook account I do not put any real information of any kind. Moodle International Conference 2008

Yesterday the Moodle International Conference 2008, held at the Third University of Rome, ended. It was the first time that I went there, and I must say that, even though the University itself seems fine and efficient, the surroundings are quite dark and scary in the night, and not particularly appealing even during the day.

The works were extremely interesting and stimulating, and the organization was great. I was not at the Social Dinner, but from the photos that I saw it must have been great (btw, you can see me quite among the public, very clearly). Well, from a bunch of people involved in social networks and social constructionism you should expect successful social events!

The main topic of the Moot (yes, moodlers organise moots, not congresses. Sounds like a snobbish touch, isn’t it?) was Rethinking Didactics (this is the official version of the Italian Ripensare la didattica. Personally I would have translated Rethinking teaching&learning, but obviously I am snobbish myself…). The idea was to boost confidentce of the people involved in online learning, that should fight against the marginalization in which they are kept at the moment, due the emphasis on the technological element, and start see themselves as central in the teaching&learning scholarship and in adult and academic education activities. » Continue reading “Moodle International Conference 2008″
